Two forms of avidin are available covalently coupled to insoluble matrices, Avidin D for irreversible binding and Avidin DLA for reversible interactions. To ensure minimal steric interference and low nonspecific binding, both forms of avidin are conjugated through a hydrophilic spacer arm. The agarose used to couple Avidin D is in bead form and crosslinked to eliminate leaching and to improve heat stability and flow rates. The VECTREX® matrix to which Avidin D and Avidin DLA are coupled is a particle consisting of a sugar polymer, highly crosslinked, with a large surface area.
