Functional Aspects:
Beta amyloid is the major protein component of amyloid cores,
neuritic cores, and neurofibrillary tangles, such as those seen
in Alzheimer’s disease. Beta amyloid deposits are also detected
in Lewy body dementia, Down’s syndrome, amyloidosis (Dutch
type), and in the Guam Parkinson-Dementia complex. Clone
6F/3D was raised against amino acids 8 – 17 of the amyloid
protein.
