What is a “Standard” VECTASTAIN ABC Kit?

VECTASTAIN® ABC Standard kits consist of Reagent A and Reagent B only. If a VECTASTAIN® ABC kit is not available for the species of the primary antibody, or the specificity of the antibody in the kit is not appropriate for the application, the biotinylated affinity-purified antibody for that application can be purchased separately and used with a VECTASTAIN® ABC Standard kit. For example, if the primary antibody (or the antigen to be detected) is human IgA, biotinylated anti-human IgA would be used in conjunction with a VECTASTAIN® ABC Standard kit. In some cases the biotinylated secondary antibody supplied in the kit is inappropriate for the application. One example might be using mouse primary antibodies to localize antigens in rat tissues. Some cross-reactivity exists between biotinylated anti-mouse IgG in the VECTASTAIN® ABC (Mouse IgG) kit and endogenous rat IgG in the tissue. In this case, a VECTASTAIN® ABC Standard kit should be used with a biotinylated anti-mouse IgG which has been rat adsorbed and does not bind rat IgG. The appropriate blocking serum, if needed, can also be obtained separately . There is a complete listing of biotinylated secondary antibodies that can be used with any VECTASTAIN® ABC (Standard) kit or with Reagents A and B from any VECTASTAIN® ABC kit. The R.T.U. VECTASTAIN® Elite ABC reagent is also available as 50 ml of ready-to-use stabilized reagent and may be used with any biotinylated primary or secondary antibody.
